Tolfenamic acid is a potent inhibitor of cyclo-oxygenase enzyme, thus inhibiting the synthesis of important inflammatory mediators such as thromboxane (Tx)B 2 and prostaglandin (PG)E 2. It acts not only by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, but it also has a direct antagonistic action on its receptors.

The non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug tolfenamic acid is licensed in Germany for the analgesic therapy of acute episodes of chronic diseases of the locomotor system in dogs and the symptomatic treatment of fever in the cat.
It is used for the management of both acute and chronic pain in dogs and acute pain for cats. The pharmacologic effects of tolfenamic acid are similar to those of aspirin.
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION:
In Dog : 4 mg / kg b.wt.May be repeated once only after 24 hours if required.
In Cat : 4 mg / kg b.wt. May be repeated once only after 24 hours if required.
In Pig : The recommended dosage is 2 mg / kg (1 ml / 40 kg b.wt) as a single intramuscular injection.
