PREGDOT
CLOPROSTENOL SODIUM INJECTION
Description
PREGDOT is a synthetic prostaglandin containing CLOPROSTENOL SODIUM an analogue of PGF2∝ for use in cattle, buffalo, horses, sheep, goat, dogs and pigs. It is structurally related to prostaglandin F2∝.
CLOPROSTENOL is a functional analogue of prostaglandin F2∝ having a specific luteolytic action. It causes functional and morphological regression of corpus luteum in cattle, buffalo, horses, sheep & goats followed by return to oestrus and normal ovulation. Cloprostenol also has direct stimulating effect on uterine smooth muscle.
Role of CLOPROSTENOL SODIUM in Anoestrus :-
- It causes constriction of utero-ovarian blood vessels causing partial ischemia, starvation & death of luteal cells.
- CLOPROSTENOL SODIUM competes with LH for receptor site & prevents further progesterone production.
- It inactivates the adenyl cyclase system to inhibit progesterone secretion and inactivates lysosomal enzymes to cause morphological regression of corpus luteum.
