Description

Disposable scalpels usually have a plastic handle with an extensible blade (like a utility knife) and are used once, and then the entire instrument is discarded. Scalpel blades are usually individually packed in sterile pouches but are also offered non-sterile. By using a disposable scalpel in place of a surgical blade (fitting the blade on a re-usable handle) it reduces or even prevents the incidences of injuries that can occur during the process of fitting or removing contaminated blades from handles.
